At Harrow Shenzhen we are delivering The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award which is highly recognised by employers and educational institutions worldwide. Participation in the Award is open to students from Year 9 onwards and will provide them with an opportunity to achieve Bronze, Silver, and Gold level awards. To complete the award, students should commit to a series of activities over an eight-month period. These activities can be completed within school and in the communities.
The scheme includes volunteering/service, physical and skill elements which are completed through regular Leadership and Service Activities. The final element is an Adventurous Journey in which students plan and carry out an independent overnight expedition in small groups. A student who completes the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award reflects commitment and the Award indicates that they are a good team member with wide ranging skills. This award is renowned for building leadership, service, skills, physical ability, teamwork, self-reliance, resilience and an enhanced relationship with the outdoor environment.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award helps develop a student’s lifelong learning and self-motivation through the completion of the challenges. These challenges allow students to discover the world around them through learning new skills and taking part in experiences that will help build them as independent young people.
