With the support of our dedicated teachers, university guidance team, and parents, Harrow Shenzhen’s first graduating class has achieved outstanding results.
Congratulations to Roy L. on his conditional offer to study Finance and Accounting at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE)!

Let’s dive into Roy’s journey—
his five years at Harrow Shenzhen,
and how he secured a place at
one of the world’s top universities.

“I Was Once an IB ‘Struggler’”
Five years ago, Roy was a student at an international school in Shenzhen, overwhelmed by the IB curriculum, especially in science subjects. “My parents would shake their heads at my report card.”

Everything changed when he transferred to Harrow Shenzhen.
“The IGCSE and A-Level pathway helped him realize that education isn’t about excelling in everything—it’s about finding the right path for you.”

Finding His Strengths at Harrow Shenzhen
Free from the IB curriculum, Roy discovered his passion for Economics and Geography.
In Economics, he analyzed the global energy economy through the Russia-Ukraine conflict. In Geography, he explored the geopolitics of the Belt and Road Initiative.
“When theories help you decode the real world, learning becomes exciting.”

His grades improved from B/C to A/A*, and under his mentor’s guidance, he wrote a 5,000-word research paper on the 2008 Financial Crisis for his Extended Project Qualification (EPQ)—a key highlight in his LSE application.

Cracking the LSE Application
“Applying to LSE wasn’t easy, especially writing my Personal Statement and strengthening my academic background.”

To stand out, Roy focused on three things:
1) Refining His Personal Statement – Multiple revisions to showcase his academic passion and unique perspective.
2) Building Academic Strength– Deep-diving into Math and Economics, going beyond the classroom with extra readings and self-study.
3) Staying Focused– With the unwavering support of teachers and a strong school environment, he stayed committed to his goal.

LSE Conditional Offer
“At Harrow Shenzhen, my teachers’ guidance and the school’s rich academic resources prepared me for the challenges ahead. The global outlook and diverse environment also gave me an edge in my LSE application.”

Mr Dino Wu
Head of Economics and
Business Studies
“Roy achieved an impressive score of nearly 90 in his AS Economics exam. He has demonstrated exceptional academic acumen and critical thinking skills, reflecting significant potential in the field of Economics. Excelling in mathematical modeling and real-world analysis, he embodies the academic rigor LSE values. I look forward to his future success in the field.”
