On Friday 22nd January, 2021
Harrow Shenzhen celebrated
100 days of learning
in our magnificent school.
We celebrated this moment
by holding a whole school assembly
which commemorated our achievements.
We want to share our happiness with you
—Harrow Shenzhen 100 days celebration!
We were honored to invite the Chairman of the School Management Committee of Harrow International Schools,
Mr Ma WeiHua, to deliver a speech.
Since our opening, Harrow Shenzhen Qianhai has recruited more than 500 students. This represents the trust and expectation of more than 500 families. More importantly, these founding students are Harrow’s future. I believe that Harrow will do its utmost to fulfill its promise of developing future leaders in a world-class school. This will be done through the great pastoral programme and the leadership and service programme which complement the academic rigour each student faces.
Students were excited to participate in the Harrow Shenzhen 100 days celebration. There are various ways to express love and gratitude to both teachers and the students; this ceremony is just one part.
If you were happy
Please sing
Music speaks. Harrow Shenzhen students were excited to perform for their peers, teachers and parents who were watching online.
Piano Solo
In our auditorium, the beautiful rhythm of the piano enchanted everyone; it was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Choral performance
The choir was an indulgence for all. We were privileged to be able to watch it live, enjoy students’ beautiful voices but also witness how confident and brave they are.
As David Woodcock, the Music Director of Harrow School in the UK, said, “No outstanding school would ignore the importance of music education.” Harrow Shenzhen believes in Harrow’s holistic education, we not only focus on academic excellence, but also cultivate students’ talents via different extra-curricular activities guided by professional teachers along with world-class equipment.
Words come
from the bottom of our heart
Our Headmaster and Chinese Principal expressed their faith in as well we hope and love for our young Harrovians.
Harrow Shenzhen Headmaster David Shinkfield
To remember the journey you have started here – remember the lessons you will learn and the games you will play – for they will teach more than just the game or lesson – they will teach you the core values of being a Harrovian – Courage, Honour, Humility, and Fellowship. Our journey together here has only just started. It has been a wonderful start – our first 100 days together – and I am very excited about what the future holds for us in the days, months and years ahead.
Harrow Shenzhen
Chinese Principal
Kevin Qian
Days ago, when our Headmaster Mr Shinkfield asked me to read a poem to celebrate and reflect on the early wins of our first 100 days here, Kipling’s ‘If’ immediately came to my mind. Consisting of just 32 lines, this inspirational piece encompasses many of the most integral and profound life lessons, virtues, and wisdom, perfectly echoing our Harrow Values of Courage, Honour, Humility, and Fellowship. The modus operandi, if put into use, will render a meaningful life, a noble soul, and a strong community.
Then, Chinese Principal Kevin Qian joined the parent, student and staff representatives and read for the audience the poem ‘If’.
Lets’ enjoy it!
♪ 《If》 ♫
By Rudyard Kipling
If you can keep your head
when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself
when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait
and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about,
don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated,
don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good,
nor talk too wise;
If you can dream–
and not make dreams your master,
If you can think–
and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors
just the same;
If you can bear to hear
the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things
you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build ’em up
with worn-out tools;
If you can make one heap
of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn
of pitch-and-toss,
And lose,
and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart
and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on
when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says
to them: “Hold on!”;
If you can talk with crowds
and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings–
nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends
can hurt you;
If all men count with you,
but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth
and everything that’s in it,
And–which is more–
you’ll be a Man, my son!
The Harrow School Song, Forty Years On, was sung by all in the auditorium and marked the end of the event.
We have prepared students with different activities about ‘100’ so that they can play and learn.
Children can design their own ‘100 days’ T-shirt and perform it on the fashion show; combine their photos and generate a ‘100’ photo; they can also build different models with 100 cups.
Just like previous ‘play and learn’ activity, children exercise their ability and creativity by creating different interesting 100 word. They send their sincere blessings in their own ways!
Key Stage One (Year 1&2) celebrated 100 days of Harrow by taking part in activities based on 100!
Children worked together to construct a 100-cup tower. Other activities included thinking of and spelling 100 words using the letters in ‘Harrow International School’, recording 100 acts of kindness and completing the 100 challenge.
The Harrow 100 days celebration comes to the end. It is not only the celebration of the past 100 days, it is also a promise for the future and beyond.
Just like previous ‘play and learn’ activity, children exercise their ability and creativity by creating different interesting 100 word. They send their sincere blessings in their own ways!
The foundation for all is education. Education should be the education of love. Education should lay a foundation of personal development and personality growth, and it should build children’s confidence and happiness. Education should promote social progress and the sustainable development of human beings.
