Attaining Academic Excellence
Is Not A One-day Task
His preparation for the SAT was both intensive and methodical. His Year 12 featured a demanding schedule, including AS Level exams, biology, chemistry, math Olympiads, IELTS, and SAT preparations. After completing his AS Levels, Nicholas dedicated approximately a month to focused SAT preparation, spending 6-8 hours a day practicing. He focused his efforts on English reading and writing, which he initially identified as weaknesses, and extensively reviewed past papers.

“I came to realize how important it was to study English. The skills I gained have helped me beyond the SAT and will continue to be valuable in many aspects of my academic journey. I’m especially grateful to my English teacher Miss Jessica Pooley-Litt, whose lessons in grammar and reading were instrumental in my success.”
Head of Upper School — Jessica Pooley-Litt
His SAT score places him among the elite few who excel across both Math and Evidence-Based Reading and Writing sections of the test.
The Way to Top Ranking University
As Nicholas looks ahead to the next steps in his academic journey, his SAT and AS Level success stands as a significant milestone—one that will support him in his applications to top universities in the U.S., U.K., and all over the world.
Our university counselling team and Chinese Principal Mr Kevin Qian offer personalized academic planning and advice to Nicholas. All students have access to dedicated Guidance staff during their study periods, lunchtimes and after school.
In addition to standardised test scores, universities value qualities such as personality, intelligence, leadership, and community service in their admissions process. Many universities have adopted test-optional admissions policies, giving students the choice of whether to submit standardised test scores. This shift emphasises a more holistic approach to college admissions, prioritising other components such as extracurricular activities, leadership roles, and personal essays.
This coincides with the philosophy of Harrow International Shenzhen Holistic Education, which fosters students’ enthusiasm for lifelong learning and leadership potential, laying a solid foundation for their future excellence and active service to society.
Students’ Activities
Last academic year, we also welcomed professors and interviewers from prestigious institutions such as Harvard, Oxbridge, and the G5 in the UK, allowing them to engage in face-to-face discussions with Harrovians.
The school hosts an annual international university fair and seminar, and this year we will invite admissions officers from over 100 universities worldwide to come to Harrow International Shenzhen.
