Our ambition is to inspire our students to strive for excellence and to prepare them for a life of learning, leadership, service and personal fulfillment.
What does ‘excellence’ mean?
Educational excellence?
Outstanding leadership skills?
Having a good command of a sport or an art?
Being an active contributor of the community?
At Harrow Shenzhen, a diverse, open and inclusive school, there is no standard answer. We always encourage the students to strive for excellence even if there is little possibility to succeed.

Jannis Y6
Jannis is a founding student of Harrow Shenzhen. He joined Harrow Shenzhen as a Year 4 student in the Lower School. He has had many achievements in his school life so far. For example, he hosted the Dragon Boat Festival event in front of over 100 people and this year he hosted the school-wide Chinese Performance which was even bigger.
Jannis also enjoys playing the piano and has won many prizes in piano competitions both in and out of school over the past three years at Harrow Shenzhen. At the 2023 Harrow Shenzhen Young Musicians finals, Jannis hit new highs and was awarded 1st place in Piano Advanced! He is also the Year 6 Award Winners for Excellence in Academic Attainment (Music) this year, which is his second time to win the prize.
Jannis won the prize at 2023 Harrow Shenzhen Young Musician
Everyone thinks highly of Jannis calm and steady stage demeanor. His humous speech indicates what a good host should be. I am very pleased and proud to see his growth and progress. I hope that Jannis can keep those Harrow values and fulfill greater achievement in the future.

Last year, Jessie has won around 23 academic awards at school and was awarded the Prize for Mathematics in Year 6. She is also enthusiastic about volunteering in school events.
From Jessie
“There is no failure except in no longer trying, ” by Elbert Hubbard inspired me a lot. This quote motivates me to keep trying things like leadership opportunities. Even though it wasn’t successful, I still learn from it and how to improve. Failure is much better than not trying in my opinion, you learn things from failure much more than success. ”
In Year 7, Jessie became more involved in leadership and service activities around the school. Jessie is a kind and intelligent person, and I am so glad she has decided to share her care for others and leadership ability by joining these groups. I know that as Jessie continues her educational journey she will continue to develop into a kind and patient leader.
